My Favourite Luxury Candles
"It is better to light a candle than curse the darkness"
Eleanor Roosevelt
I've had a long love affair with scented candles - it began with inexpensive ones from the supermarket. I lived in a flat that had an open plan kitchen/living area, so they were great for keeping kitchen smells at bay. I probably should have just cleaned more to be honest (see my last blog post on cleaning). They did their job, but I was always a bit disappointed with how quickly they would burn out or how they'd smell great for the first couple of hours of burning, but would then fade to nothing.
These candles taught me that there are two things that matter most to me in a scented candle...strength of scent and burn time.
Overtime I became aware that there were more expensive offerings out there, but I resisted for a long time as I was not convinced a candle with a £20+ price tag would live up to my expectations. However last Christmas whilst struggling to come up with present ideas I received a 20% off voucher for "The White Company", so asked for some luxury scented candles as a special treat,
Best idea ever! I have now completely bought into the more high end candle...my poor bank balance! The few I have tried have not disappointed - great scent as well as longer lasting. You burn them for a lot less time for so much more scent, so you do feel like you are getting value for money. So I thought I would share the ones I have tried and fallen in love with.
Cassis Signature Candle from The White Company http://www.thewhitecompany.com - I find the scent to be slightly fruity, but without being too sweet. It has woody undertones that compliment the sweetness of the fruit (blackberries and black currants) extremely well. Even when not lit I find this candle gently scents the whole room.
Pomegranate Noir from Jo Malone - a definite splurge and again is fruit based with woody undertones. However I find this a deeper, richer and more luxurious scent. http://www.jomalone.co.uk
Are you a candle lover like me? I'd love to know what your favourite candles are and what you like about them.
